Today in a grocery store, I noticed a pretty girl and decided to talk to her. I didn't do it immediately because I had to work up the courage, but it worked out to where she walked past me in a different aisle and I stopped her and asked.
My opener was how noticing her made me forget my shopping list, which was the honest truth because I was spending way more time thinking about this than any ingredients I needed. We both laughed a little bit so I felt that was ok for on the spot.
I then asked her immediately if she was seeing anyone and she smiled even more but said yes. She apologized and I said it was ok, no worries, and we both moved on.
I'm wondering if this question was too broad? To me, I wanted to be polite by conveying my intentions quickly, but maybe this was too vague? "Seeing someone" could be anything really, and I'm wondering how different variations of this question would be interpreted and how that makes me look as a potential suitor. Or maybe I shouldn't ask it at all, what does the community think?
